Ugh the weather here in Wanganui is so horrible. Got me heater on. I guess its bye bye to summer now.
I am not usually scared of thunderstorms and lightning. Just come home from study now. I guess I am not usually outside when a storm is going on. I knew I should've stayed home LOL.
Gosh, the sound of the thunder nearly ripped my ears as I was trying to hurry up and get in the car.
I wonder what the weather is like by you guys T8 & Nick?
Oh, while we were studying tonight the power went out just before we started so we were close to reading our bibles in the dark LOL but 'praise the Lord' the power just happened to come back on when we were just about to put a stop to reading more. Amazing

Usual mild day here though we did have an inch of rain in the last 24hrs.
What did you learn at the study?March 14, 2007 at 8:15 am#44846PhoenixParticipantWe are studying the Gospel of Mark. Much what I need. To get to know Jesus. We are at Chapter 9.
Mark 9:1
1And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.I was confused at that verse and havent a clue what Jesus meant. The group had some suggestions but I'm still mind boggled here.

Is he speaking of those that sleep?
He spoke in such terms of Lazarus.March 14, 2007 at 8:30 am#44849PhoenixParticipantHuh? He was talking to his disciples then wasnt he? So, the way I read it… he was saying some of them that were standing there (right there and then) were not going to taste death till they saw the Kingdom of God come with Power.
I wonder if he was meaning (preparing them for) the transfiguration.
I dont know Nick. I havent a clue. I think Im having a brain dump at that moment.
March 14, 2007 at 8:58 am#44851NickHassanParticipantHi P,
I guess the reign of God in power started at Pentecost when the Spirit first filled the body of Christ.Lk 24
“49I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”March 14, 2007 at 9:01 am#44852PhoenixParticipantOh by the way. I was given a book on 'Whats so amazing about Grace?' written by Philip Yancey. So far very good and interesting. Have you read it Nick?
Here is something that really made my heart feel for this woman.
” A divorced woman recently told me of standing in the sanctuary of her church with her 15-year-old daughter when the pastor's wife approached. “I hear you are divorcing. What I can't understand is that if you love Jesus and he loves Jesus, why are you doing that?” The pastor's wife had never really spoken to my friend before, and her brusque rebuke in the daughter's presence stunned my friend. “The pain of it was that my husband and I both did love Jesus, but the marriage was broken beyond mending. If she had just put her arms around me and said, 'I'm so sorry…'”
Poor lady
*sigh*

Hi p,
Have read some of those and found them a bit superficial and humanist. Any such book that does not first teach salvation is largely only tickling the ears of the lost.March 14, 2007 at 7:20 pm#44885PhoenixParticipantHi Nick
My point was.. and I think it was Philips intention too… that people are constantly seeking grace. You go to a church and you dont find grace but ungrace. And this is so true.
You will find that people who are feeling bad about their sins wont go to church because they have this wild imagination that they will only be judged more rather than cared for. I had that feeling too.
Do you agree?
Another story in the book showed another sinner doing so bad that I could hardly bear to read it and she was advised to go to church. (obviously the person may have already spoken to her about going to church and be saved) She freaked!!! and said she already felt bad about her sins and didnt want to be judged any further.
But if you have gone up to a sinner and spoke to them about salvation first and they listened to you. Then Praise the Lord! Im glad it worked for you. However, I dont think I could go up to my old friends and talk about salvation… They'd tell me to **** off. So I think the 'tickling of ears' is important
My best friend.. Id be filling her in about what I been up to when she asks “what have you been up to lately?” and as soon as I tell her what I read and learned in the bible shes screaming at me “Dont you God Bother me!! I dont want to hear it!!” Which of course I had to tell her that doing that will cut our talking time down to zero. She basically said “So be it”.
sorry if I have waffled on a bit here lol

Hi NickIm still pondering on this verse. It is leading me back to what I heard about a long long time ago.
Like you say “seek first the kingdom of God and the rest shall be added unto you”
Is the kingdom of God within you?
Love, grace etc. Jesus spoke of Love all the time.
I learned this when reading about Light Ascension.
I realise this is a really hard process to do. It is really hard to be full of Love and only of Love and remain that way till you ascend (spiritually).
Then again I could just be all confused all over again.
