Hi ,
Here are the beliefs of the ECLA from their website.
Their beliefs mirror catholicism remarkably. This church confesses the Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
This church confesses Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and the Gospel as the power of God for the salvation of all who believe
– Jesus Christ is the Word of God incarnate, through whom
everything was made and through whose life, death, and
resurrection God fashions a new creation.
– The proclamation of God's message to us as both Law and Gospel
is the Word of God, revealing judgment and mercy through word
and deed, beginning with the Word in creation, continuing in the
history of Israel, and centering in all its fullness in the person and
work of Jesus Christ.
– The canonical Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the
written Word of God. Inspired by God's Spirit speaking through
their authors, they record and announce God's revelation centering
in Jesus Christ. Through them God's Spirit speaks to us to create
and sustain Christian faith and fellowship for service in the
world.
This church accepts the canonical Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as the inspired Word of God and the authoritative source and norm of its proclamation, faith, and life.
This church accepts the Apostles', Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds as true declarations of the faith of this church.
This church accepts the Unaltered Augsburg Confession as a true witness to the Gospel, acknowledging as one with it In faith and doctrine all churches that likewise accept the teachings of the Unaltered Augsburg Confession.
This church accepts the other confessional writings in the Book of Concord, namely, the Apology of the Augsburg Confession, the Smalcald Articles and the Treatise, the Small Catechism, the Large Catechism, and the Formula of Concord, as further valid interpretations of the faith of the Church.
This church confesses the Gospel, recorded in the Holy Scriptures and confessed in the ecumenical creeds and Lutheran confessional writings, as the power of God to create and sustain the Church for God's mission in the world. They say the message of God's Word centres on Jesus but do not seem to recognise Jesus as a vessel for God to dwell in and work through.

Were you not with these folk last year?
Or was it another?February 11, 2009 at 9:56 pm#121212NickHassanParticipantHi,
Should anyone follow Luther? From a catholic source with Seekings comments following.
“This quote from a catholic source about the canon is interesting“The different status of some New Testament books resurfaced again during Reformation in sixteenth century. Martin Luther, although he included James, Jude, Hebrews and Revelation in his list of New Testament, he considered them to have inferior status. He particularly disliked James which he labeled (in his 1522 German translation of New Testament) as “Epistle of Straw”. In addition, he added the word “only” in Rom 4:28 to support his doctrine of “sola fide” or “salvation by faith alone”.
Nick,
Good info. I read recently that it was Luther who first coined the phrase and added “faith alone” to the text in Romans.
It is a constant struggle for all of us to avoid being version bound, manuscript bound etc. only because it favors our pre-assumptions.
Luther, the scholar that he was, elected to ad to the text in spite of the text in Revelation “-

Is there anything else we should not study?
Is not learning the mutual aim here?February 14, 2009 at 6:07 pm#121561CindyParticipantThere could be, if you would not constantly interfere.

We are here to encourage deeper understanding by questioning what folk have set as their facts.
Not everybody enjoys the process but how else can we continue learning?February 14, 2009 at 7:59 pm#121579CindyParticipantQuote (Nick Hassan @ Feb. 15 2009,05:16) Hi Georg,

NickAnd you really believe you are encouraging? Be real.
You flat out reject anything anyone puts up, even scriptures, or you fill the screen with scriptures that have nothing to do with the subject. You don't go into any debate by asking questions, why some one believes, or how he came to that conclusion.
I just want you to answer me one question;
Why is it so important for you to reply every post?Georg

The scriptures do relate if you would only ponder them.
We are all on a journey and none can claim infallibility.February 14, 2009 at 9:13 pm#121584NickHassanParticipantHi Georg,
For bible students this site is a rich display of the myriad falsehoods of the world that have divided and continue to divide men from that scriptural truth. It shows how and where men deviate from what is revealed so there are many opportunities every day to challenge the authors to rethink their path before they go too far into their own tradition and to warn newcomers away from a similar dangerous fate.
Once men have added pride to their work it does become apparently fruitless but maybe we can all learn from that too.

Hi Georg,I have been told time and time again that our agents learn to spot counterfeit money by studying the real thing, not by studying the counterfeit.
Perhaps there is merit in Bible study here – want to know the real – study it not the counterfeit.
