What is everyone's thoughts on God knowing the future.
I used to believe that God foreknew everything
I'm currently evaluating what does scripture teach us, does God know with absolute certainty the details of the future or can He with certainty proclaim an outcome based on His power, and His wisdom to move the pieces on the board (so to speak) to arrive at His desired conclusion.
Please show any scripture(s) that should be considered that I may have missed?
Thanks,

Quote I used to believe that God foreknew everything me to I use to believe that ;
but then I ask why this ;Ge 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.
Ge 2:2 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.
Ge 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.Ge 6:6 The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain.
Ge 6:7 So the LORD said, “I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth—men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air—for I am grieved that I have made them.so my question was why was God grieved if he all knew what was to be
there was another question that came to my mind and that is ; what would be the reason for it TO FORESEEN ALL THINGS
DID THE FREE ACTION OF CHOICE AND THE TWO WAYS POSSIBLE TO ALL BEINGS ARE NOT SUFFICIENT I MEAN THE KNOWLEDGE OF RIGHT AND WRONG ,men cannot harm God only them selves so until they learn that ,it seems we will live in pain ,this is only so because some are trying to make the it right on the wrong way , it is obvious you do not need to know the future to know what is going to happen to those that doing so ,
NOW THE BIBLE DOES NOT HAVE THE WORD FORESEE(N) AS SUCH A ACTION FROM GOD ;BUT GOD ALWAYS SEES ALL BEINGS ANGELS AND MEN AS EITHER RIGHTEOUS OR WICKED
this is my 2 cents

to me God does what he wants and when he want it to do it ,no need to foresee ,God as enough power to change the course of any one in heaven or on earth ,even though he as rules by which he works ,for those reasons he can predict anything he wants ,and bring it to fulfillment in time and place

Daniel 2:31 Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible.
Daniel 2:32 This image's head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass,
Daniel 2:33 His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay.
Daniel 2:34 Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces.
Daniel 2:35 Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.
Daniel 2:36 This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king.
Daniel 2:37 Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.
Daniel 2:38 And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold.
Daniel 2:39 And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.
Daniel 2:40 And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise.
Daniel 2:41 And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.
Daniel 2:42 And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.
Daniel 2:43 And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.
Daniel 2:44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.
Daniel 2:45 Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.
Daniel 2:46 Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face, and worshipped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odours unto him.
Daniel 2:47 The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldest reveal this secret.
Daniel 2:48 Then the king made Daniel a great man, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon.
Daniel 2:49 Then Daniel requested of the king, and he set Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, over the affairs of the province of Babylon: but Daniel sat in the gate of the king.
Daniel 7. 8.

Thanks for the scripture, but does this teach that God knew this from foreknowledge or that He was confident that He had what it takes to bring it to past (right under satan's nose)? Perhaps that is the reason for so much symbolism? Are there scripture(s) that clearly teach that God knows details in the future.
Please be patient with me, I'm seeking for truth through a discussion, not an argument.

Seeking truth.I will be very patient if you are really seeking.
The book of revelation is all about the future to come.
God knows ahead of things to come, because he makes it happen.God speaking through Jesus knew that jerusalem
will be destroyed, and that happened in 70ad.Re' the symbols;this is because God wants us to seek,
and so the wicked can never understand.
But the true seekers alone will be given the Holy spirit
to understand.I only argue with them that blatantly ignore scriptures,
I have provided as proof.wakeup.

Does the prophecy of God have a chance of not coming to be?
January 21, 2014 at 8:53 am#368000seekingtruthParticipantkerwin,
Not a chance, but is it because God foresaw it or because God's knowledge and power is far beyond His adversaries. Thanks for your input – Wm

journey42,
God has a plan that He has declared to us, but are we just acting out what He foresaw, or is it because He has the knowledge and power to see it done, displaying it for all to see.Thank you for your input – Wm

I have been praying and searching for the truth. As I mentioned earlier I used to believe God knew all His works from beginning to end (and part of me still does). But it is readings from scripture that have driven me to question whether this belief is based on truth or tradition. So yes I need the help of others, but I will be convinced only by what scriptures teach (not by others opinions). Please enlighten me, and thanks – Wm

Seeking Truth,God can control all things, even what I choose to eat for breakfast, but that would oppose choice. On the other hand have foreknowledge of my choice does not. The same is true of prophecy.
I am of the opinion that God does have foreknowledge of all things and uses that foreknowledge and his power to the benefit of each and everyone of his children because he does not want even a single one to be destroyed.
Note: I am not sure it is possible for one of those who deeply desire to be righteous to be destroyed.
January 21, 2014 at 11:28 am#368010seekingtruthParticipantTo help others to better understand what I'm postulating:
I believe that when sin manifested in lucifer, God understood He had to display for heaven's inhabitants why lucifer had to be thrown into the lake of fire (so they would continue to follow Him through love and not from fear). So I believe that God created our finite environment to demonstrate the effects of sin over time, to accomplish this He limited His powers within this “environment” to satan's level and seemingly gave him all the advantages. But the end results are His plan will demonstrate both His justice, and His love, resulting in God being glorified for all He has done.
Much of what He has and will accomplish is being done through man, who had turned his, God given dominion, over to satan. But within this “god of this age's” rule, Yah·weh (our Father), will set up His Kingdom of Heaven right in his midst, other then His Son's sacrifice, He is limited to primarily using man (by having His angels manipulate the events around people, guided by God's knowledge of human nature) to achieve His plan.
This is just my opinion but it does seem to align with scripture (hopefully this will help).
My opinion – Wm

Hi Seeking truth,
Yes I believe that. We can't change what he foresaw. He knew you would be a christian on such a such day, and he prepared the circumstances leading up to it.Now lets say he sees a christian that would turn rebellious at a particular time. He will not be happy, but because of mercy, he decides to draw him back to him again,… therefore he will punish that servant by letting him know that his blessings have been taken away. He would create the events, build up the circumstances leading to it, allow him to have false hope, or great expectations, and then bang, let the big fall happen.
In order to teach his naughty child, he would have to plan the events leading to his fall and redemption. He knows ahead.
January 21, 2014 at 2:33 pm#368024kerwinParticipantSeeking Truth,
I do not know if your opinion aligns with Scripture as the first recorded instance of Satan showing at least the appearance of sin is when he used the serpent to tempt Eve to sin.
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth and Satan was a creature of the heavens. He only had a period of time between his creation and Eve's temptation to sin previously to the first event of him “sinning” that is recorded.
