Hi Nick.
To carry on the discussion in “The Angel of the Lord” thread, I have some questions which I am not getting any reply.
I will ask one question at the time. “I don't know” is a sufficient answer. But I assume with your strong stance, that you show a level of confidence that should mean you can answer my questions. They will all be reasonable questions.
June 22, 2012 at 2:26 am#303568ProclaimerParticipantMy first question to you requires a yes, no, or I don't know answer.
Are men ever called “angels” or given the description, “angel” in the bible?
June 22, 2012 at 2:26 am#303569NickHassanParticipantFire away t8
June 22, 2012 at 2:27 am#303570NickHassanParticipantHi T8,
yes and no.
Men are confused with angels and angels with men.June 22, 2012 at 2:31 am#303574NickHassanParticipantHi T8,
Abraham saw 3he thought were men but were angels.
Likewise Ezekiel saw angels that looked like men.
We are told too that some will entertain angelsJune 22, 2012 at 2:31 am#303575ProclaimerParticipantCool Nick. I am just going to pick up my son from school and will be back after that hopefully.
June 22, 2012 at 2:31 am#303576NickHassanParticipantHi T8,
But angels are not men and men are not angels.June 22, 2012 at 2:41 am#303579NickHassanParticipantHi T8,
There are also many kinds of angels -archangels, seraphim, cherubim, cherubs etc and children have their angels in heaven. There is only one kind of man and relations with angels are anathema.[Gen6]
June 22, 2012 at 3:04 am#303586NickHassanParticipantHi T8,
There are some called angels of God.
They seem to directly convey messages from God.
Clearly they are filled with the Spirit of God as sons, like the human sons of GodOne spoke for God in the burning bush.
June 22, 2012 at 3:07 am#303587NickHassanParticipantHi t8,
The Cherubim are fascinating as shown in Ez 1-10 seeming to FORM the throne of God IMO.June 22, 2012 at 3:11 am#303588NickHassanParticipantHi t8,
So these heaven based messengers are quite different from men.
Some have names, like Gabriel and Michael [? among the ELDERS of Revelation]
Some have been known to partake of human food.
Some are able to be made visible as with the donkey incident.
Some are warriors in the hosts of heaven.June 22, 2012 at 3:27 am#303589NickHassanParticipantHi T8,
The word angel should not be confused with human messenger as men are frequently spoken of as messengers in the bible[106 in the kjv] and only a neophyte would confuse them despite their equivalent roots. The distinction is important
June 22, 2012 at 3:48 am#303591NickHassanParticipantHi T8,
The short answer to the thread is NO.
Angels are angels.confusion is from men.

yes and no.
Men are confused with angels and angels with men.
OK good.So from your answer I decipher 2 points:
1) In scripture, men are indeed sometimes called angels, (as I say).
2) However, in such cases it is the result of confusion because men are never legitimately called angels. Such instances happen in scripture because men SUPPOSE that it was an angel that they saw when in fact it is a man or suppose that they saw a man when it in fact was really an angel.
Is this what you are saying?
June 22, 2012 at 4:49 am#303596NickHassanParticipantHi t8,
Wrong.
Men are never called angels.June 22, 2012 at 4:53 am#303597NickHassanParticipantHi t8,
You say men are called angels.
Where is this?June 22, 2012 at 9:47 am#303617NickHassanParticipantHi T8,
Please answer this question.June 22, 2012 at 9:48 am#303618NickHassanParticipantHi t8,
This seat is getting chillyJune 22, 2012 at 10:30 am#303627NickHassanParticipantHi t8,
Multiple TYPES OF BEING are called angels??
How inclusive do you want this to be?
Only angels are called angelsJune 22, 2012 at 1:22 pm#303631ProclaimerParticipantOK, you have made your stance very clear and this is truly helpful. I only now have to demonstrate one place where a man is called an angel and that will prove your stance is completely wrong.
Haggai 1:13
13 Then Haggai, the LORD's messenger, gave this message of the LORD to the people: “I am with you,” declares the LORD.The word messenger is a translation from the word mal'ak {mal-awk'}.
That is the word for angel and it is applied to a MAN called Haggai. Now compare it with say Genesis 16:7.
The angel of the Lord found Hagar near a spring in the desert; it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur.Again the word (angel) is exactly the same word as in Haggai 1:13, mal'ak {mal-awk'}.
See how the word mal'ak is applied to both beings:
1) Angel ( mal'ak) of the Lord
2) Haggai, the LORD's messenger ( mal'ak).Same Hebrew word Nick, and Haggai is a man is he not?
So I have proven to you that the word angel/messenger/mal'ak is equally referring to a man and to perhaps the most famous heavenly being besides God mentioned in the Old Testament. The only way I can see you get out of this is to prove that Haggai was not a man, but a Cherub or Seraph or another being from Heaven.
However, I don't think you will prove this at all and instead will concentrate on the two differing English words angel and messenger. If you go there, then you have lost because they are exactly the same word in Hebrew. There is no difference in scripture and they are only different in our English translations because translators chose to interpret the same word with two different English words to make a distinction between a messenger/angel from Heaven and a man. But even then, translators will readily admit that they are both mal'ak {mal-awk'} which is the word angel in English or angelos in Greek.
If you have a different defense, then I really look forward to seeing it. But if it is one of the two points I just mentioned then you have lost this one Nick.
