Nick,
Sorry about not reading your post carefully last night.
June 9, 2015 at 7:46 am#799218kerwinParticipantNick,
I am not sure of the context of your last post.
June 9, 2015 at 9:28 am#799221NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
So how do marriages begin?
Does a man just TAKE TO WIFE?
June 9, 2015 at 9:39 am#799223NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
Surely a mutual AGREEMENT is required if one is to be married?
“taking to wife” does not cover it.
June 9, 2015 at 10:58 am#799233kerwinParticipantNick,
There was probably a mutual agreement but women were given in marriage and men either did or did not take them. That is why Jesus used the words “given in marriage”. It is called an arranged marriage.
June 9, 2015 at 11:27 am#799240NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
So it is not the same.
June 9, 2015 at 11:38 am#799243kerwinParticipantNick,
Marriages are marriages but there are different forms.
Modern marriages in developed countries are not the marriages that occurred in Scripture. Some would claim they are non-scriptural because of that.
The phrase “take a wife” has been adapted for modern marriages and now there is also a corresponding phrase “take a husband” though technically men have never been said to have been given in marriage.
June 9, 2015 at 11:49 am#799244NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
So do you think the rebellious angels in Gen 6 went through some sort of agreement process?
June 9, 2015 at 3:57 pm#799255kerwinParticipantNick,
I believes the sons of God found the daughters of mere men to be pleasing to their sight and then petitioned their parents to make a match between them and their parents did dispute their misgivings. It is a story that has been repeated many times. Judges 1:1-3 is an example when a son of the Most High found a daughter of mere men pleasing and petitioned his parents for such a marriage.
Some claim the sons of God in Genesis are angels but they have no evidence to support that claim.
The only place in Scripture angels are plainly called sons of God is the book of Job. The rest of the time the title refers to human beings. Deuteronomy 14:1 is an example.
June 9, 2015 at 4:13 pm#799257NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
Who are the sons of God in Gen 6, Ps 89?
God did not accept fatherhood to the sons of Adam.
They did not have sonship by the Spirit and were of the god of this world
June 9, 2015 at 4:22 pm#799258NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
Judges 1.1-3??
June 9, 2015 at 4:25 pm#799259NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
Since angels are plainly called sons of God in Job why would you dispute that such use occurs elsewhere?
June 9, 2015 at 4:31 pm#799260NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
What of Dan 3.25?
Do you think the MAN in ez 9.11 and Ez 10 2 was a MAN?
June 9, 2015 at 6:36 pm#799264kerwinParticipantNick,
Ezekiel speaks of six males that are over the city of Jerusalem and they sound like angels.
Daniel does record a pagan speaking of one looking like a son of God. The story of Job is based in the same region so it may have been more common in that culture to call angels sons of God.
Thank you for the correction.
June 9, 2015 at 6:41 pm#799265kerwinParticipantNick,
Judges 14:1-3 gives the account. Sorry about my error.
June 9, 2015 at 6:56 pm#799266kerwinParticipantNick,
Both human beings and angels are called sons of God in Scripture.
Luke 3:38 specifically says that “… Seth the son of Adam the son of God”. Son is not in the Koin Greek but translators of the AV of the KJV decided it was implied.
The bottom line is that Jesus said believers would be like angels in that they would neither marry or be given in marriage.
June 9, 2015 at 8:36 pm#799273NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
So perhaps the heavenly sons are not angels
but the ELDERS of Revelation?
June 9, 2015 at 8:57 pm#799274NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
We know archangels are angels, Chief angels.
But have Seraphim and Cherubim similar roles on earth or do they reside in the throneroom of God?
June 10, 2015 at 5:24 am#799280kerwinParticipantNick,
It is my impression that the elders of Revelations are human beings but yes they would also be called sons of God.
The Seraphim and Cherubim have little to do with humanity in Scripture. Their roles seem to be in heaven or at the gates of Eden. They are God’s servants.
June 10, 2015 at 6:40 am#799281NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
So why do you think there are 24 humans in heaven?
Who are they?
