    Exodus 16
    New International Version (NIV)

4 Then the LORD said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions.

    Quote
    Nehemiah 9
    New International Version (NIV)

15 In their hunger you gave them bread from heaven and in their thirst you brought them water from the rock; you told them to go in and take possession of the land you had sworn with uplifted hand to give them.

    Quote
    Psalm 78
    New International Version (NIV)

24 he rained down manna for the people to eat,
he gave them the grain of heaven.
    25 Human beings ate the bread of angels;
he sent them all the food they could eat.

According to the above three passages manna comes from heaven and yet Jesus states:

    Quote
    John 6
    New International Version (NIV)

32 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven.

Why don’t Jesus’ words contradict scripture?

He answers that question with these words:

    Quote
    John 6
    New International Version (NIV)

63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life

So it is obviously that Jesus is speaking spiritual truths while his hearers were speaking in other ways,

It later becomes clear that Jesus is speaking of himself in a spiritual way as these words testify.

    Quote
    John 6
    New International Version (NIV)

34 “Sir,” they said, “always give us this bread.”
35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

Is Jesus instructing us that he came from heaven in the same way the manna came from heaven?

If not then how is he teaching us he came from heaven?

    Pierre,

In my course at college I was given a reading assignment then asked questions whose answers were in the reading assignment. This was done to help me to learn.

    That is your answer.

    Hi Kerwin:

The bread or manna that God gave the children of Israel through Moses will sustain the body for as long as it lasts, but the bread that God has given us through His Only Begotten Son will give us eternal life.

And so, yes both the manna in the OT and the bread of life has come from God our Father, but as Jesus stated when he was tempted of the devil:

Mat 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

    Love in Christ,

    Marty,

    You have a good point.

Does it tie in with John 1:1-18?

According to the NIV translation Jesus also stated:

    Quote
46 No one has seen the Father except the one who is from God; only he has seen the Father

The NIV also translates these words from 1 Corinthians 2 to read:

    Quote
11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.

Are these passages as well as John 1:18 speaking of the same one?  Why or why not and who are they speaking of?

    New International Version (NIV)

14 Jesus answered, “Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid, for I know where I came from and where I am going. But you have no idea where I come from or where I am going. 15 You judge by human standards; I pass judgment on no one.

What standards is Jesus judging by that he knows where he comes from and where he goes?

What standards do those he addresses use that they have no idea where he comes from and where he is going?

    Hi,
The WORD was in the mouths of the prophets and given to the hungry.
Moses was not the word but a servant of that Word.
    Now Jesus embodies that WORD

    Nick,

That is a good way to put it.
