The image of God

Image of God

If my son is the spitting image of me, then no one is going to think my son is me right?

Why is it that the one who is called image of God, who is the son of God, and the firstborn of all creation, is considered God as well?

Surely being the image of God means you are another, but like God right?

Man was made in the image of God and no one should think based on this, that man is a manufactured God. Rather, we are considered children of God and sons of God at best and so it is with Jesus, who is the image of God and the son of God.

Jesus is the one that God made both Lord and Christ. Why is that not enough to believe as to who Jesus is. Why do we need the additional third century doctrine of the Trinity too? This Trinity Doctrine is really a contradiction of him being the image, son, and the one that God made Lord and Christ.

    Nick,

    Hi davidl,

By OBVIOUS do you mean it is revealed?

    Or just a LOGICAL DEDUCTION

For us there is ONE GOD.

It means it is his opinion which he believes is revealed to him because it certainly isn’t certainly isn’t obtained by logical reasoning from what is written. Please note that he did not even try to give evidence to support his claim.

He is one of those that deride logical reasoning even though Scripture does not and Jesus uses it.

    Hi KW,

Jesus Christ used it with the spiritually blind.

They are easily confused on spiritual matters as shows when they read into his words things he did not say.

    Nick,

Paul uses it in his letters to Christians as well.

The bottom line is that it is not condemned in Scriptures but rather men who are afraid to have their teachings tested that object to it.

1 Corinthians 15:12-19Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

12 Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: 14 and if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. 15 Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not. 16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: 17 and if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. 18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. 19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

    Nick,

Paul used logic to teach the immature so that might grow and not die prematurely due to their lack of wisdom and knowledge.

Logical reasoning is a form of reason and reason is not condemned in Scripture but instead is used by those that serve God. It is godless men that have taught you to condemn it.

Ge 1:27 So God created man in his own image,
    in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.

    read this very slowly

    Terrica,

Him in English is used for a mixed group. Nowadays we tend to use “them” instead. “man” means humanity.

An example is the NET translation:

    NET Bible
God created humankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them, male and female he created them.

They both mean the same thing but the modern feminist object to the use if “he” and “man” for humankind.

    Hi KW,

    Who is condemning reason?

It is vital to reach those of the world.

But no use in figuring out spiritual matters

    Nick,

Reason is good for understanding spiritual matters. It is useless in the hands of those that are corrupt or do not believe.

    Hi KW,

Reason is good for spiritual matters?

Jesus preferred parables for those enmired in human intellect.

Where are the wise and the clever??

    Isaiah 1:18
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

    Does God reason with man?

    John 15:25
But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: ‘They hated me without reason

Seems bad to not have a reason for something.

    1 Corinthians 4:17
For this reason I have sent to you Timothy, my son whom I love, who is faithful in the Lord. He will remind you of my way of life in Christ Jesus, which agrees with what I teach everywhere in every church.

Paul made decisions based on reason.
