God knows what He is talking about.

Since God is referred to as Father in His word, He is the Father to all those who are His sons and daughters.

The OT sons and daughters were not sons by seed but by adoption.

The angels are referred to as sons of God because God created them.

I tend to think of God as a mind or personality and his spirit is his essence.
So while the Father may be in Heaven, by his Spirit, he can dwell in all creation including us.

So yes God is the Spirit as you say.

Why would he?

God created Eve from Adam. Eve is part of man. Eve was adam/man. So while man is the head of woman, Christ is the head of the man.

We have a body, soul, and spirit. The whole is our being I suppose.

And our spirits bear witness with God’s Spirit that we are the sons of God.

Thus, the Spirit of God is what gives us life eternal. It is this eternal connection with God that gives us eternal life.
