The Shepherd of Hermas was once a very popular book and was even considered inspired by many in the early Church.
It contains a message of repentance and matters of morality, which was addressed to Believers after a time of great persecution with another tribulation looming. Although it consists of visions of an apocalypse, it is not addressed to Believers in the end times.
The text of the Shepherd is not well preserved. To date, there are three Greek manuscripts that are incomplete and an additional number of smaller fragments. There is no Greek text for the majority of 107.3-114.5.
