The Cross

When Jesus died on the cross, he uttered the words,
“My God my God why has thou forsaken me”.

Why did the Father forsake his Son at the moment he needed him the most. Well as many already know it was because Jesus took upon himself the sins of the world, and God who is too pure to look upon sin had to forsake him. Jesus became the sacrificial Lamb who took away the sins of all who would look to him and trust in him. He paid the penalty that was our payment for our sins, that penalty was death.

Read more about this interesting subject and what it actually means when we say that death was defeated.  “The Cross” looks into this subject in depth and reveals a surprising event that many are not aware of.

“Truly this man was the Son of God”. Are these your words?

Yes they most certainly are. I didn’t know about the reciting the 1st verse of a Psalm tradition. That certainly gives Jesus words even more meaning

    Terrarica,

t8 believes it is because God forsake Jesus.

I have to agree since the words are past tense and Jesus does not lie.

Perhaps it was a more emotional statement and so not to be taken literally.

I have not looked into that hypothesis.

    you really don’t answer my question ; we know that Jesus said ;

1)Lk 23:46 Jesus called out with a loud voice,“Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last.

2)Mk 15:34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?”—which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

3)Ps 22:1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?

why did Jesus said those words ?

Sin separates man from God, and Jesus was accused of blasphemy and condemned to die.  The sins of all of humanity were upon him.   So at the point of death Jesus was separated from God by sin, not his sin, but the sins of all of humanity.

    Isaiah 53:

4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

    Deut 21:

22 And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be to be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree:

23 His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.

    Galatians 3:

13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

    Love in Christ,
    Marty

    Terrarica,

    1) God literally forsake him
    2) Jesus felt like God did but God did not literally forsake him.

One of the two are the only reason I see for Jesus to say those words.

    Kw and Marty

Thanks for your answers but you did not address  my question  ,all you said is true but not related to my question, more to the reason of Jesus life and accomplishment, yet the two verses should give some clue I think
