I think perhaps it is largely due to Galileo.

“The Earth is firmly fixed; it shall not be moved.”
    -Psalms 104:5

The Catholics believed the earth was the center of the universe.  The Bible doesn't say this.  They did.  Their tradition I guess, or maybe the pope's idea.  Not sure.

Galileo argued that the earth rotates the sun.

So, Galileo was walked down to the dungeons of the church and shown the instruments of torture that awaited him if he didn't recant.  Fearing that he might share the same fate as Bruno, who was burned at the stake a generation earlier for the same crime, Galileo recanted the truth, and was only placed under house arrest until he died.

And, a few years ago (or so) the Catholic church decided Galileo was correct.*  And, in 2000, the Pope apologized for that crime and many others in the last 2000 years.
[*I'm editing that statement. Maybe he never said Galileo was correct, but only apologized for the treatment of him.]

Could it be that this whole mess with the Bible is why they discount it so much?
I mean, it's hard to be proved wrong by a book you don't use or really believe in.
You can't be wrong about anything you believe in the Bible if you don't believe the Bible.

And so, no more of these awkward moments.

I think you make some fair points here.

Are you sure you want me to delete it?

I think its funny he didn't cite “the apology” he claims took place.

I, for one, am a geocentrist. I think Scripturally and scientifically the geocentric position is the most tenable.

A lot of modern so-called science infatuated with Darwinism is idiotic.

You would be breaking your own rule if you did.  (I have recently been checking “the rules”)

I know the points were fair, T8. I just hate the way I posted it.
