Kerwin……….Nick seem to have a odd view of Intellect and Understanding , Scripture does not agree with him on this, we are told to seek Knowledge and grow in understanding. He thinks clarification of Scriptures is “CARNAL or WORLDLY” or “Gnosticism”. His religion is based on Just believe and forget about understanding it. But the TRUTH of GOD is SOUND and CLEAR and does involve understanding and Knowledge. At least to those who have the SPIRIT of TRUTH in THEM . IMO

    peace and love……………..gene

    Hi KW,
We in Christ are told to seek understanding.[2Peter1]
Wisdom too is to be sought by all[js1

We are told to be renewed in our minds unto the mind of Christ.
But scripture is wisdom, the word of God is truth and even bread by which we must live.

So why would you prefer to turn to the understanding the world offers ahead of sacred scripture?

You need to choose a master.

Nick………Why do you use the English language to Speak with, Seeing it came from the “WORLD” from the mind of Man. Should we now throw it out and our dictionaries and our God Given minds as well, and Just listen to Your rendition of things. We are told to seek, ask, and Knock for things from God the FATHER and that includes our understandings of (ALL) things including Scriptures and everything else in between also. You can not, limit Mans understandings to Just what is written in scripture according to your own presupposed understandings. God has made it so we all can add something to the collective Body of Christ. So that the whole body can grow to the full measure of Christ. IMO

    GB,
We have nothing much to offer God except our obedience and submitted wills.

It is He Who gives us a new body, offers transformation of our minds and to share in his eternal Spirit life.

Empty out what the world has given you, do not cling to any imagined baubles of intellectual vanity and come.

Nick……..What makes you so sure you can offer GOD anything? It is GOD who offers us , not us him. IMO

    GB,
All your intellect speculation will find no place when He is allowed to transform your mind according to truth.

It appears that Nick is one of those Christians that believe the Christian faith is indefensible.   It is quite possible that is true of the doctrine he follows but in scripture we are told Paul use reason to defend and advance the true doctrine.  In Athens he showed no reluctance when invited before the intellectuals of the day bur went and preached winning at least a few over.

These Christians use Colossians 2:8 to justify their faithless behavior.

Here is a treatise that pretty much covers the issue.   I am not in 100% agreement with the treatise as I believe “supernatural” is just a word to describe a part of the natural world that most individuals do not “see” or “understand”.

That is true but are you doing that.  Where is your faith that God is a rational being?  If you believe he is rational then you know that correctly applied logic is no threat to him or his truth. In fact it is not only no threat to his truth but it allows you to follow his command to test the spirits of what you hear and believe to see if it is from God.  If you refuse to use this and other tools God has generously supplied you with to test those spirits then you are rebelling against the Most High.

That is not precisely the point scripture makes.   The word of God, wherever it may come from, is wisdom and life but it is not confined to scripture as God is a living God and is present in all creation.  Believe in God, believe in his Son.

God is in the world or do you believe scripture which testifies to that fact. Romans 1:20

But as for you, abandon the worldly view you so obviously have and adopt the view point of Jesus and of the Father.

Did I confuse your Neo-Platonist point of view with using “world” and “worldly” in two different ways?   I hope instead that expanded your understanding of how the same or similar words can be used to express different concepts.

    Hi KW,
The seed should not be subjected to human analysis ad infinitum but just planted.

It is living and active above our tiny minds.

God is in control so let go.

    Hi KW,
The weak rational mind is no match for the power of God's words.

Faith is the only useful response.

So Paul was in error when he used and apealed to reason?

You once again accuse scripture of being in error.

There are many scripture that contradict the lie you hold to so tightly and none to support it.

    1 Samual 12:7(KJV) reads:

    Quote

Now therefore stand still, that I may reason with you before the LORD of all the righteous acts of the LORD, which he did to you and to your fathers.

Samual used reason and thus according to you he is sinning.

    Job 9:14(KJV) reads:

    Quote

How much less shall I answer him, and choose out my words to reason with him?

Now it is Job that you falsely accuse of sinning.

    Ecclesiastes 7:25(KJV) reads:

    Quote

I applied mine heart to know, and to search, and to seek out wisdom, and the reason of things, and to know the wickedness of folly, even of foolishness and madness:

According to you the whole book of Ecclesiastes in sinful as it is about seeking the reason of things.

    Isaiah 1:18(KJV) reads:

    Quote

Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

I see you are even arrogant enough to accuse God of sinning.

Have I ridiculed you foolishnes enough or should I go on and point out other you wrongfully accuse of doing evil.   Would not be better if you tested the spirits of what you believe to make sure they are consistent with what God commands.

    Hi KW,
Paul sowed in every possible way.
He appealed to the jews in one way and the greeks another.
But he did not advise men to waste time studying the matters philosophically.

Why are you so quick to condemn anyone who does not join with you in your philosophy??

Once again I direct you to Ecclesiastes where Solomon studied matters philosophically.

Proverbs is another book of philosophy.
