    Terraica,

Will you dare to boldly speak where Scripture choose to remain silent?

    Nick,

Acts covers baptism in the name of Jesus best but other books of Scripture mention it as well.

    Hi,

What scripture makes plain through the water baptism of Simon Magus in Acts is that baptism is not a magic ceremony.

All must repent or they will likewise perish. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Baptism is an acknowledgement before God and men that, unlike Jesus of Nazareth we are sinners in need of salvation.

    1 Peter 3, rom 3, Lk 13.3

Amen brother, the purpose I see behind baptism is to share your testimony before the church and God. A declaring of ones salvation and glorifying God for his Grace. It’s to be a celebration and a time for praise. Not something we just do because we are told to but because we want to. Our hearts should be so filled with Joy that despite our wretched heart God was merciful and we should want to proclaim his Mercy to the church.

A number of months AFTER receiving of the holy spirit , I went and fellowshipped with a pentecostal church . I asked the pastor if he could baptise me and the answer I received was to the effect that I needed to be a member of their church for awhile and come to study and over time the pastor would see the spirit manifested in me .  I then went to a baptist church and asked the same question,  got pretty much the same answer,  finally, I went to a SDA church ( I was keeping the “sabbath” at that time. And I received the same answers in addition to the need to profess that Ellen White was a true prophet, mandatory membership etc. I had enough of this !! I gathered a dozen christions together from various demonimations, got my parents and had my father in law baptise me!!!! I wanted him , of course, to baptise me in Yeshua’s name  but I cannot remember how that went  lol

My reformed church (Harvest bible chapel) required the same thing and I didn’t agree with it but now I understand the need for it. There are so many false converts and our church wants to protect itself so in order to get baptized they want to make sure your salvation is genuine and you follow the same theological understanding of the gospel etc.

Thing is when I got baptized I knew all the right theology etc but I was an outward Christian not a real one and they didn’t pick up on this so the membership really doesn’t do much except make one feel restricted. Our membership is between ourself and God. I shouldn’t feel separated from other branches of Christianity because this causes division. If we all believe the true Gospel saved by grace through faith alone (Ephesians 2:8-9) then we should treat all with the same brotherly love despite some theological differences. Heck even revelations starts off with 7 different types of churches that God showed love to except 2 of them and none of them were perfect but they each had something to offer. Membership creates division.

“to get baptized they want to make sure your salvation is genuine and you follow the same theological understanding of the gospel etc.”

Most assured John the Baptist did the same thing. 🙂

    “The whore has many daughters.”

    Hi,

If what you call the physical church is divided then you are not speaking of the Body Of Christ.

    Are miracles magic?

Why have I received no answers?

    To all,

The church is hidden and her children are scattered; just as it is foretold.
